My Post Production Diary (Editing Smile)

So I decided to edit my video on Kinemaster instead of Premiere Pro because I'm more familiar with the layout, modes and settings plus I can access it from home so it is convenient.

For my advert I decided to keep things fairly simple because adverts are more about convincing people to invest in your product whilst putting a point across than flexing your editing skills.

One of the edits I chose to use was the pan and zoom effect. This simple yet effective edit allows you zoom in and out of videos or focus on a certain area. I used this because I thought it would help make people focus on my characters facial expressions rather than the background, equipment and shadows. Plus I think it adds a bit more flair to my advert.

I decided to add non copyrighted music because my advert didn't have any dialog so it would have been pretty empty without it. I think the soundtrack I chose goes well with the theme of the advert because it starts of sad and picks up as it goes on. Track name Cinematic Memories.

Another edit I decided to use was the cover transition. I used this because it's a smooth clean transition popularised by George Lucas (Star Wars) and it helps the audience understand that we have changed scenes. I'd also say that this edit is used to keep the story line of the advert flowing without confusion.

This next edit I decided to implement is called the split and freeze frame. This edited freezes a portion of the video and turns it into an image. I pared this with a camera click sound effect to try and make out that my character was using his camera and taking a picture of what he was looking at. This is a nice little extra edit that I learned how to do and I thought it would be perfect for my advert.
One of my final edits was adding the mind logo to the advert to alert the consumer about what company this advert is for. I made to sure to make sure that the logo slowly fades in so it doesn't look choppy and unnatural. After that I then decided to extend the advert and add a blue background to keep the Mind logo on screen for longer so it doesn't go unnoticed. I picked a sky blue background because it stands out (however it's not sickly like a sparkly rainbow) and it also blends nicely with the logo and doesn't look obnoxious.

The rest of the edits are simple chops but they have being designed to go together so they look nice and natural.

Thankfully I didn't actually run into any problems whilst editing my advert so the process was quite quick and efficient. I also managed to learn how to do a few more edits (freeze frame) that I didn't really touch previously so I'd say I've also developed some more editing skills that I didn't previously have. So I'd definitely consider post production to be a success because I've managed to edit the video together with time to spare.
