My Production Diary (Smile)

12.01.22 I filmed the first part of the advert in my bedroom by using my tripod and phone to capture the shots.

For the first shot I positioned the tripod towards my bed and made it taller. I did this so it is looking down at me to show that my character is mentally down.

I then positioned my tripod towards the door for my second shot. I did this to try and make it so the camera is my eyes and it's seeing what I'm seeing. I then went behind the door and threw the camera through the door crack it's a bit random but it works.

After that I pointed the tripod towards the ground and filmed me picking up the camera.

I then took my camera/phone out of my tripod and leaned it on my TV so I could film the showcase. I used my phone to get an alternative angle of the showcase.

24.01.22 I then went to Barnes Park to film the rest of the advert but didn't manage to take my tripod.

I filmed the lake using my phone but pretended to film it on the camera by rotating my shots. This will make the consumer believe I'm using the camera which helps with the advert and the plot. I turned the camera around to show my face smiling to fit in with the Smile campaign. When I filmed me holding the camera I made sure to film my hand shaking a little bit to show that I'm moving the camera.

Finally I filmed a quick shot of my feet walking to the park bench to provide context on how we got here. I filmed this by pointing my phone downwards and walking. This was fairly easy to film and do so I thought I'd add it to my project.

Problems

One time I went to the park and couldn't film due to the rain and lack of equipment. So to tackle this I edited the first part of the advert first and then came up with a slightly different idea for this part then went back to the park another day.

This production helped me develop my photography skills because it's helped me to work through adversity by finding other ways of getting things done. For example I originally intended to bring a tripod and sit on a bench whilst recording the outside part. However the rain made it so I couldn't sit down and bring out a tripod so instead I managed to film it standing up by using my arm. In my opinion that is a sign of progress because not everything is going to go my way when producing videos.

This advert also helped me develop my ideas and creativity because even though it looks like I'm using the yellow camera I'm actually using my phone. That is something I've never actually done before so it was quite an interesting thing to learn and experience.

As a whole production was a success since I managed to get all of my footage together with time to spare as well as developing some key photography and coping skills in the process. My project wasn't massively different to what was on my pitch so I think I followed my plan fairly well and didn't end up going off track and filming something completely different. I think the advert caters to my target audience because my character is young and is experimenting something new in a successful attempt to find happiness. Young people are often still trying to find themselves and find out what they like so I think this advert is a good showcase of youthful experimentation.

I have added a few pictures at the top of this post to give you a better idea of what I am talking about.
